San Antonio has no shortage of remodeling contractors, but far fewer companies handle painting and full-scale remodeling together, and fewer still take on both residential homes and commercial properties. We looked at three names that come up often in local searches and reviews, and compared what each one actually offers based on their own websites, service lists, and client feedback.
1. JC Painting and Remodeling
- Website: jcpaintremodel.com
- Address: 18018 Overlook Loop 105 1015, San Antonio, TX 78259
- Phone: (210) 430-1296
- Founded: 2014
JC Painting and Remodeling is a family-owned San Antonio’s home remodeling and painting company with more than 10 years in business. What sets it apart from the other two companies on this list is scope: it’s one of the few local contractors that handles interior and exterior painting, siding replacement, kitchen and bathroom remodeling, flooring, roofing, and carpentry, for both homeowners and businesses, under one roof.
Why it tops this list:
- Licensed and insured — the company is fully licensed and insured, which is stated clearly on its site and backed by a licensed-and-insured badge in the footer.
- Free estimates — consultations and quotes are free, with no cost to find out what a project would run.
- Residential and commercial — unlike the other two companies here, JC works on both homes and businesses, not just houses.
- Personalized solutions — the company frames every job as if it were working on its own property, tailoring the approach to each client’s space and goals rather than applying a one-size-fits-all package.
- Skilled, hands-on team — one crew covers paint, siding, flooring, roofing, and carpentry in-house, rather than subcontracting each trade out separately.
- On-time, on-budget completion — several reviewers specifically mention crews working around their schedules and still finishing on time, with jobs completed as promised and within budget.
- Affordable, fair pricing — client reviews repeatedly describe the pricing as reasonable, with more than one calling it good value for the quality delivered.
- Quality craftsmanship — the same reviewers who mention pricing also point to detail-oriented work and results that held up well enough to get compliments from neighbors.
2. Shaw Company Remodeling
- Website: shawcoremodeling.com
- Address: 14127 Jones Maltsberger Rd San Antonio, Texas 78247
- Phone: (210) 366-2380
- Founded: 2000
Shaw Company Remodeling has been in business since 2000 and has completed more than 2,000 projects, with an A+ BBB rating (accredited since 2006) and eight Best of Houzz awards. Its focus is different from JC’s: it specializes purely in remodeling – kitchens, bathrooms, flooring, home additions, and outdoor living spaces with design and construction handled by the same team, plus a local showroom for choosing materials in person.
What to know before hiring them:
- Remodeling only, no painting — painting isn’t listed as a service, so a homeowner who wants painting done alongside a remodel would need to bring in a separate contractor.
- Residential only — everything on the site is written for homeowners, with no mention of commercial or business work.
- Limited service area — Shaw’s own site notes that San Antonio coverage is “limited to select areas,” naming specific neighborhoods such as Alamo Heights, Boerne, Castle Hills, New Braunfels, Shavano Park, Schertz, Terrell Hills, The Dominion, Fair Oaks Ranch, and Bulverde. Homes outside these pockets may not qualify for service.
- No published free-estimate offer — the site invites visitors to “start a conversation” rather than advertising a free estimate up front the way JC does.
3. KM Builders
- Website: kmbuilders.com
- Address: 7915 Mainland Dr, San Antonio, TX 78250
- Phone: (210) 680-5626
- Founded: 1984
KM Builders has the longest track record on this list, founded in 1984 by Keith Moehle. It’s a family-owned remodeling company known for kitchens, bathrooms, whole-home renovations, additions, and outdoor living spaces, and was recently featured in HGTV’s Smart Home 2025.
What to know before hiring them:
- Remodeling only, no painting — like Shaw, KM Builders doesn’t list painting as a standalone service.
- Residential, high-end focus — the company’s own language centers on “San Antonio’s finest homes” and luxury craftsmanship, so budget-conscious homeowners may find it priced toward the upper end, and it isn’t positioned for commercial jobs.
- Licensing and insurance aren’t shown on the homepage — JC displays this directly, and Shaw’s BBB accreditation implies it; KM’s homepage doesn’t list it.
- Consultation-based pricing — as with Shaw, project costs aren’t estimated until after a free consultation, so there’s no quick way to gauge pricing upfront.
